FreeCiv is a freeware application for windows, Linux, and MAC operating systems. It is currently being maintained by the FreeCell software project in the SVN repository under GNU's General Public License (GPL). FreeCiv gives you an integrated development environment (IDE) and a graphical user interface to write FreeCell games. This means that you can create your own FreeCell games, edit them, share them with others, or sell them using online file sharing services.
There are a couple of ways to get FreeCell. There is the traditional way of having to purchase the software and then using a CD to install it on your computer. There is also a new alternative that lets you use FreeCell through the Mac Installer. With the Mac Installer, you can get FreeCell through the Mac Store, through downloading the application, installing it through USB, or even without a USB. You can also burn the application onto a DVD if you don't want to burn it to a CD.
As far as features go, both the Mac and the Windows Installer version of FreeCiv have the same basic features. Features include cheats, hints, unlimited levels, leaderboards, high score tables, online support and tons of achievements. If you're a FreeCell veteran, you'll appreciate the intuitive control scheme of FreeCell, with its simple-to-learn gameplay loop that doesn't require you to be a master computer programmer or game designer. So whether you're a novice game developer looking to build your career on the wildly popular Freecells, or a seasoned expert looking to brush up on your FreeCell mastery, FreeCiv has something for you!
